CS Kinyanjui Outlines Trade and Investment Priorities to Senate

Date: May 6,2025

The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry, Hon. Lee Kinyanjui, appeared before the Senate Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization, and Tourism to present the Ministry’s strategic focus areas.

These priorities span the three State Departments under the Ministry and are aligned with Kenya’s broader economic development agenda.

In his presentation, CS Kinyanjui underscored the Ministry’s pivotal role in propelling international trade and investment, describing it as a cornerstone in expanding market access for Kenyan goods, attracting private sector capital, creating employment opportunities, and driving wealth creation.

He also highlighted the Ministry’s contribution to stabilizing the national currency and addressing systemic socio-economic challenges.

The Senate Committee was further briefed on the progress in the development and operationalization of industrial parks across the country.

The CS noted that these industrial zones are instrumental in decentralizing industrial development and catalyzing economic activity at the county level.

He also reported on ongoing efforts to streamline operations by consolidating key State agencies under the Ministry to improve efficiency, coordination, and service delivery.

The CS outlined several key policies and priority areas currently being pursued. These include the implementation of the National Investment Strategy and the National Investment Promotion Coordination Framework; enactment of enabling legislation such as the Business Laws Amendment Bill and the Export-Import Development Levy.

Others include development of county competitiveness indices and licensing reforms; support for Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Export Processing Zones (EPZs); promotion of export diversification, bilateral trade cooperation, and strategic investment partnerships; and strengthening of commercial representation abroad to protect local industries and promote fair trade.

The CS was accompanied by Principal Secretary for Investment Promotion, Abubakar Hassan, along with other senior officials from the Ministry
